I've seen large rafts of Ruddies down there = before but that was something else! The Canada Goose flock were the only birds = fairly close in -- most of the rest were fairly distant and more to the north of the park. The huge rafts of Ruddys were impressive! I also saw the Buffleheads, scaup, Common Goldeneyes and Canvasbacks. There were also several dozen Oldsquaws and a few Common Loons. The water was like glass, no wind and the calls of the Oldsquaws and loons were a real treat. The sound carried easily to the shore. I also spotted 18 Tundra Swans (14 in a flyover) and a single Horned Grebe. I love it when the waterfowl returns to the river. ///////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com=20 | || http://www.nestbox.com=20 || At 09:25 AM 12/19/00, Tyler Bell wrote: >This morning I made a quick detour along the river at Patterson Park in >Calvert County to look at a large raft of ducks.
