(That's just east of Towson for those of you not familiar with Baltimore County.) I noticed something curious. There was a long loosely-formed stream of American Crows flying westward. It seemed endless. They kept appearing over the horizon (north, I think), and continued going westward towards the setting sun. It was a beautiful sight. But I wondered about this behavior, which I believe is quite common in winter -- a colleague at work mentioned this to me a couple of years ago, but I didn't believe him (he lives in the White Marsh area). Any idea what these crows are doing, and why? Are they heading towards a huge communal roosting area? Anyone know where this is? What's the daily foraging range in winter for these birds? Crows ... very neat birds! Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah to all who observe these religious holidays. cheers shireen ============================ Shireen Gonzaga Freelance Science Writer Baltimore, MD whimbrel@home.com ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
