Co.). As I began my walk, hundreds of gulls scattered as an adult Bald Eagle circled several times overhead. Around one area of open water, several hundred Canada Geese rested with a lone Snow Goose among them. Small numbers of Gadwall and Shovelers, plus 2 Coots, were also present. In the woods between the pond and the Western Branch, I heard a Red Shouldered Hawk and spotted a Hermit Thrush, Yellow Bellied Sapsucker, Blue Jay, Downy Woodpecker, 3 Red Bellied Woodpeckers, and the usual groups of White Throated Sparrows. On recent visits to Mount Calvert on the Patuxent, I've seen several Northern Harriers (each time), 2 Bald Eagles, hundreds of Black Ducks, a few Hooded Mergansers, 2 Mute Swans, and, on one visit, 3 Common Mergansers.
