MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi folks, Larry Zoller, his son Dan, & I went in search of Lapland Longspurs today. Thanks to the many tips on locations we got from fellow Ospreyers (in particular, thanks, Leo), we found a small number of Longspurs in a large flock of Horned Larks in a field near Ridgely, MD. There were several hundred Horned Larks flitting about the fields on both sides of Sparks Road. There was still some snow on the ground and this made the birds easier to see on the ground. Larry finally did the smart thing and turned his back to the wind, looked into the lousy light, and found several Longspurs. The temperature was in the lower 20=92s with wind speeds that frequently exceeded the temperature. I haven=92t experienced such cold conditions since a trip to Michigan=92s Upper Peninsula several winters ago. Now for the big question. On the way to the Sparks road fields, we passed many similar fields, which appeared to be birdless. We stopped at several locations and found lots of sparrows and looked at a lot of bird shaped dirt clods, but found no flocks of birds in the fields. When we got to the Sparks road fields, we immediately saw lots of birds. What=92s so magical about this location? Happy birding, Kathie Lambert Harwood, MD Kbert59@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
