Date: Mon, 1 Jan 2001 17:37:36 EST Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Stephen Davies Subject: Harlequin Ducks in Ocean City MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit There were 6 Harlequin Ducks in the Ocean City inlet this afternoon (3:30-4:30pm) - 4 adult males and two females. 4 males and one female were with the scaup, Long-tailed Ducks etc around the rocks off the tip of the jetty on the south side of the inlet. Another female was feeding further inside the inlet, close to the south jetty. We did not see the eider today, although it might still have been present - there were waterfowl to the south of the south jetty that could not be seen well from the north side of the inlet. We also made a conservative estimate of 50 Purple Sandpipers frequenting the rocks on the north and south sides of the inlet. Stephen J.
