It was working clumps of dead leaves and dried blossoms, kinglet/Cape May fashion. The Northern Shrike was seen at Hughes Rd, just north of River Rd, midafternoon. Turning north on Hughes from River, Go a few hundred yards to the first rise. There are a few Sycamores on the left in the pasture. Beyond is an island of multiflora with saplings sticking out. The shrike sat in the open on the south side of the thicket, or perched at the top of the saplings, or pounced on the ground. In between, it hid in the thicket, with Blue Jays mobbing. I have new pictures of the shrike and the Frederick Snowy Owl at: http://www.odolep.com/abirds2.htm Dave Czaplak Germantown, Montgomery Co, MD dma3@aol.com ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
