A flock of about 20 Am. Tree Sparrows, 2 White-crowns, and several Songs were working the patch of feed next to the road at the hedgerow along the West edge of the sewage pond fencing throughout the day. No towhee there, despite almost continuous observation by us or the 2 or 3 other parties. I added to the seed load at this spot, and laid down three other spreads between here and the tree that is very close to the road to the West (the last one before the farm's driveway). I spent a lot of time walking along the tow path, or really in the canal (which is very frozen), and it the thickets North of the canal. Across from the first farm's driveway is a lot of thick, good habitat, and this continues (although at times patchy), on the North side of the canal back to the sewage plant. I worked this area three times, listening for scratching, etc., but without any success. Try, try, again??
