Also there was a young NORTHERN HARRIER actively feeding over the meadow. There were also 8-10 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, so I guess this bird is not as unusual here in the winter as I had thought. Still one LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL on the Anacostia River, viewable from Anacostia Park. The Anacostia River seems to be the only place in DC with any congregation of gulls, and even these numbers are relatively slim (several hundred). I noticed that Ned Brinkley reported low numbers on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel as well. Where are all the gulls this year? North of here (Conowingo? Florence, NJ?) or south (Hatteras?)?
