In the Science Section of today's Washington Post (p. A9), there is a short note concerning research done by Kevin E. Omland of the Univ. of Maryland at Baltimore County and colleagues suggesting that common ravens from California may represent a new species of raven distinct from other common ravens. Their conclusion is based of genetic analysis of 72 common ravens from throughout the Northern Hemisphere. I would submit that the Ravens from Baltimore may also be somewhat distinct, at least this year. Especially now that the Eagles are out of it! (See pages A1, A7, D1, and D7 of today's Washington Post). Forgive me. I just couldn't resist it.
