I have seen a couple of reds recently, one is residing in or near my yard this winter, one was seen last summer near here. I also had what appeared to be a *brown* morph in my yard, responding to a tape, this autumn during migration (we were having 2-3 screeches calling around the yard or in neighbor's yards every evening). Every Screech Owl I have seen in Rock Creek Park has been gray. I would hazard that the red:gray ratio in Maryland *may* approach that of NY, that is, reds more commong coastally.
