Only one was red that I recall. I would expect that the red morph would be more common in the Eastern part of the state, but I believe that most that I have seen have been gray. Some of the grays are brownish in color, but close enough to gray that I have lumped them there. Not that I wouldn't call one a brown morph if it was truly all brown. This maybe an interesting project for the summer. Its something I often pondered when holding one that I felt wasn't really gray. Or perhaps one that wasn't as red as others. And thanks for taking the time to stop and check road kills! Its nice to know I'm not the only one. I've often slowed down rush hour traffic on I-270 because I'm peeling a great horned owl off the shoulder. I just wonder what those people think... But it really is a great way, although unfortunate, to obtain band recoveries.
