That must have been 5-10 years ago because we have only had red morphs for a number of years now. However, we did find a roadkilled gray morph in our neighborhood (about 0.5 mile away) a few weeks ago. Hal remembers seeing 2 roadkilled brown morphs in Annapolis about 20 years ago: one in front of his father's yard & the other on Forest Drive near the entrance to your driveway! Those are the only ones he remembers. The owls that breed in his father's yard seem to be nearly equal numbers of red & gray morphs -- over nearly 25 years. If there's been a change in the ratio over the years, it hasn't been noticable. If you were interested in scouring Worcester County for brown morphs, you could ask those who heard screech-owls during the recent the OC CBC or those who may have "regular" spots to let you know where to look.
