They do not have the problems with low light that film cameras have, and the "video clip" allows for selection of the best frames from a number of frames, using one of the computer-based editing programs. These are becoming very popular in the UK with birders, one reason is that the huge number of birders who arrive to see rarities (if you think the Snowy Owl situation is bad, go to big UK twitch!) seriously limit the ability to get good photographs with even rather long lenses. Thus using a scope and the optical zoom feature of the videocam really allows some terrific shots (albeit not as good quality as fine-grained film). But excellent records and memories, nontheless.
