This morning (1/11/01) around 10AM, a white-winged gull was spotted by Dotty Mumford and seen by Sue Ricciardi, Chris Swarth and myself from the viewing platform at Jug Bay Wetlands Park. It was determined that this was an Iceland Gull, first winter. Also seen was a Lesser Black-backed Gull. A second LBBG was seen at 3PM and the Iceland Gull was refound. At that time, I attempted to take some videos through my scope -- quite a challenge as the gull was very far out in the river amongst thousands of Herrings and Ring-bills. I did manage a few still captures from the videos despite a stiff breeze that caused the camera and scope to continually vibrate. http://www.nestbox.com/iceland_gull.htm Without the scope/video combination there was no chance to get this bird visually documented. Despite the low quality of the captures, I think the gull shows up pretty well. ///////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com || ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
