We should have known this was = to be a Kinglet day when we had 2 RC at our suet this morning (as we = watched from the kitchen with our morning tea). Went to Patuxent = Research Refuge Visitor Center, found everything frozen, and half the = trails closed. Did see what I am certain were 2 Savannah Sparrows close = to the VC, on some tall grass. There were several Song Sparrows in the = same area so it was easy to compare. However, once we explored the = trials that were open, we encountered silence. We certainly enjoyed the = hike, but the birding was dissappointing. On the final leg, Laurel = trail, as we hiked through mixed deciduous and pines, we heard several = kinglets. We stopped, and were entertained for 10 minutes by a half = dozen RC and GC Kinglets. It was so quiet in those woods we could hear = their tiny wings beat. To think we were only minutes from the beltway! = Even a dissappointing day can hold wonders!=20 Joe Alexander Middletown, MD joealexander@gscyclone.com ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
