On the runway guide light structure at the south end of National Airport, an adult BALD EAGLE. At Hains Point, DC, a MERLIN and an adult winter-plumaged LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL on the golf course. At Black Hill Regional Park, Montgomery Co., MD: the female HARLEQUIN DUCK was active in the open water below the visitor center. Jan. 28: Blackwater NWR, Dorchester Co., MD: at least 12 BALD EAGLE. (same day) Burton's Island, Sussex Co, DE: a GREAT HORNED OWL and 2 roding AMERICAN WOODCOCK (despite temps. in the high 30's at dusk!). 300+ BRANT, 6 HORNED GREBE, 6 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER and several BUFFLEHEAD in adjacent waters.
