Unfortunately, many of the ducks reported from the 1/26 scouting trip had vanished. However, COMMON MERGANSERS continued to be abundant. RED-BREASTED and HOODED gave us a MERG " hat trick " as stated by a possible hockey fan? Other waterfowl included PIED-BILLED GREBE, GADWALL, AMERICAN WIGEON, CANVASBACK ( one female ) , BUFFLEHEAD, ( Kylie McCandless pronounced that they were " so cute " ) BLACK DUCK and ever present AMERICAN COOT. We encountered a mixed flock of passerines including BROWN CREEPER, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH. A single AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was spotted. All were happy to see an adult BALD EAGLE perched obligingly in a tree at close range. The kids enjoyed scope views of " Mr. and Mrs. GREAT BLUE HERON " perched together in a tree, as well as a skein of CANADA GEESE that flew by very close. It was fun to have Kylie and Drew McCandless with us, and Aunt Ann Marie, who seemed truly admiring of the birds she was shown.
