In the region where the Harlequins were, there were also many Purple Sandpipers and Ruddy Turnstones, and one winter plumage Red Knot. Also one Red-throated Loon, and several Common Loons. In the West Ocean City ponds by Racetrack Road some 50 Hooded Mergansers and over a dozen Ring-necked Ducks were present. The Mergansers were doing some courtship displays, and with that many birds, the sight was surely delightful. At Indian River Inlet, along with the Great Cormorants, I did manage to eke out a solitary Bonaparte's Gull. Some Surf Scoters were also there, along with the group of Oldsquaw. Lots of Boat-tailed Grackles were also around. Near the Marina to the west of the Inlet there were several Pied-billed Grebes sneaking around amongst the boats. A Red-breasted Merganser and several Scaup were in the water near the Island. I also missed on the Tufted Duck at Silver Lake on Thursday, although I spent lots of time reviewing all the heads of the sleeping Ducks there.
