Children love it and adults can get lots of information from the text. The book's pages count from zero to twenty, one of the very few counting books to go beyond ten. Each page is beautifully illustrated as a new common yard bird arrives at the feeder: cardinal, titmouse, chickadee, woodpeckers, etc. There is a short poem about the arrival and some suspense, as the first page shows a cat lurking in the background. A squirrel figures in the plot and all is well by page twenty. At the bottom of each page is some small print for adults, describing what this particular species eats and how to attract it plus interesting facts about its habits.
