For those of you familiar with the Island = there is an abandoned hunting lodge on the east side of the Big = Thoroughfare between markers 17 and 15. Both birds were loafing on the = pier and flushed and flew to the SE as we approached. This is my first = sighting of Brown Pelicans for the new year can spring be far behind. = Still seeing large #'s of Sanderlings on the westside jetty entering the = Island. I had another 300+ day 1/29/01 when we had a high tide and stiff = easterly breeze. Waterfowl #'s have dropped off as the "official" = hunting season has ended which is somewhat of a surprise but I attribute = there absense to a lack of SAV which they have already consumed and = possibly a drop in baiting by hunters???. Good Birding to all, I have = really enjoyed reading about all the good sightings this winter on = MDOSPREY, Thank you all.
