(By size, I suspect the three were two males and one female). Also at Pickering Creek - three Purple Finches. Along my own driveway - both Kinglets and the usual Catbirds, later in the day a flock of about 80 Cedar Waxwings. Today (Wednesday) - Ruddy Ducks in the Miles River near Unionville, Golden Eye in the Miles River near the Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, a Horned Grebe at Claiborne, and another Purple Finch (beautiful male) at a private residence near St. Michaels. And the by far biggest highlight --- the St. Michaels resident (who remains unnamed by request) reported noon-time sightings of a Snowy Owl on both Monday and Tuesday of this week. At their request, I went to the area and loitered from 11:30 until 1:15 today, but there was no sign of the bird. I also drove the roads in the area - again with no success. But the report was quite detailed, and the bird was seen by both husband and wife, so it sure sounds encouraging. Talbot County residents and visitors should be on the lookout - examining all the white plastic bags in every field, just in case. Is anyone to the south of us (Northern Neck for instance) missing a Snowy Owl?
