West Ocean City pond on Sat (with Montgomery Co MOS) was rich in waterfowl, and beautiful in the sunshine: Shoveler, Wigeon, Canvasback, Redhead, Green-winged teal, scaup, Pintail, Ruddy, Buffle, Hooded and Red-breasted Mergs. Tundra Swans, vocalizing. Black-crowned Night-Heron. At Indian River Inlet, Great Cormorant and Boat-tailed Grackle. At Burton's Island, a nice variety of ducks, Greater Yellowlegs, and Tricolored Heron. A short stop late Friday afternoon showed the "sparrow field" behind Wal-Mart on Rte 50 was hopping. We got no rarities, and likely missed even less-than-rares, but there were scores of busy birds--Songs and White-throats of course, and Fields and White-crowneds--marvellous. Earlier, at Cambridge, easy-on-the-eye Surf Scoters, Long-tailed Ducks and goldeneye, plus all the close-up Canvasbacks, Wigeon, Tundras, etc. Another wonderful Eastern Shore experience!
