First up was the Sandhill Crane on Kent Island. We missed it between 8:30 and 10AM, though it was obviously somewhere in the area since it was seen later in the day. We did find a WC Sp in one of the hedgerows and heard a RB Nut in a pine woods. Second target was the Trumpeter Swans recently arrived at Horsehead. We saw 8 of them nearby. On to Blackwater in search of Golden Eagle. 2+ hours of searching there found 20 or so Bald Eagles. Tried really hard to turn one into a Golden but to no avail. There were good numbers of Common Merg (~50) and 3 or 4 Greater Yellowlegs. Also 2 Delmarva Fox Squirrel on Egypt Rd. Final stop was Elliot's Island Rd in search of Rough-Legged Hawk and Short-Eared Owl. We found one of each. The Rough-Leg was a dark phase bird seen flying over just as you come out into the marsh. The Short-Eared was sitting on a pole in the marsh at the next bridge south of the 2nd abandoned house. Also heard a VA Rail. In all, a nice day with 3 of our 5 target birds found.
