Itwas a male Red-winged Blackbird singing in a neighbor's yard. At Piney Run Park the ice has opened up a little bit more. Thoughthe lake is still 95% covered a large number of waterfowl are there. New to that flock were a Pintail and a small flock of Common Mergansers, birds which had not been present through the past icy months, though itis difficult to call them spring migrants. Buffleheads were courtingvigorously.
