I saw it all by itself (no geese around) feeding in the field on the left 0.6 mi south of the dogleg. I watched it from 5:10-5:39 p.m., at which point it took flight and flew behind the white house with the dark roof (aparently 7525 Kent Pt. Rd.) to roost (?) for the night. It touched down to the left of the house where there seems to be a small pond surrounded by Phragmites. There is a playground with a yellow slide in the immediate area of the pond. The pond is not visible from the road, but domestic geese called as the bird landed - hence my supposition that there is a pond there. The bird is in adult plumage with a nice red forecrown, though apparently this can be shown by first-winter birds in February. It did not call (which would have permitted ageing, first year birds have a strange shorebird-like call). In other news, Ocean City Inlet was fairly quiet today and yesterday but was punctuated by a flock of 8 male and 2 female HARLEQUIN DUCKS. Today (2/5) only about 7 birds, but I didn't stay long.
