I also walked Elkhorn yesterday. Elkhorn is now about 50% open water, allowing some waterfowl to return, which had departed when it froze completely. Centennial is about 60-70% open. The birds: Lake Elkhorn: Canada Goose--5 Mute Swan--2 Mallard--yes Canvasback--7 (only 1 yesterday) Ring-necked Duck--30 Hooded Merg.--none today (3 female plumaged yesterday) also: Sharp-shinned Hawk Red-shouldered Hawk--a very noisy pair, interacting above the lake Hairy Woodpecker Ruby-crowned Kinglet Centennial Lake: Canada Goose--hundreds Mallard--yes Canvasback--3 Redhead--14 Ring-necked Duck--about 25 Bufflehead--pair Hooded Merganser--3 (one male; two female plumaged) Am.
