For some reason, and I am guilty of it myself, that becomes offensive. When acquaintances say to me, "Oh......you're a birdwatcher" I try to explain it away as birdwatching being a passive hobby, (merely sitting at your kitchen window with a cup of coffee watching your bird feeder) as apposed to being a birder, an active hobby, (hiking miles in the brush or driving a hundred miles to see a rarity). Most will just look at me with that "knowing" grin on their face, but it makes me feel better. :) Birder or Birdwatcher, one in the same....incidently, I still like OldSquaw. Good Birding!
