In-Reply-To: <3A8ECFFD.9CB35652@dol.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii I visited Cambridge MD,Blackwater, and Middle Hooper Island with my high school ornithology class today. Looked like 1500 Canvasbacks sheltering in one of the coves near the marina. ALso present in this flock were 15-25 Lesser Scaup, 1 Redhead. Nice comparison for my students to see these Aythya spp all together. We also saw greater scaup (hooper) and ring-necked duck(blackwater) later. AT about 3PM at Middle Hooper I was the biggest flock of redheads I have ever seen.In fact, it totalled more than I have seen during my 35 years of birding: approx 250 birds in a dense raft. Also saw 9 American wigeon,25 surf scoters, 30 long-tailed ducks, 1 horned grebe in Cambridge. Long-tails, horned grebes, buffleheads and goldeneyes were also at middlehooper. Blackwater had several thousand snow geese, far from the loop, 20-25 bald eagles, tundra swans, 1 hooded merg, 100 (or so) pintails, green-winged teals, I might go back out tomorrow with my camera!
