A delightfully brisk morning full of singing (romance in the air!). I had the great fortune to find 3 WOODCOCK. One of the birds flushed from under my feet and landed on a leaf strewn hillside. I approached the approximate spot carefully and was rewarded with a brief movement to my right. I was then able to observe the bird as it walked carefully around a thicket and out of sight. It was one of the best views of a woodcock I have ever had. From one second to the next a great morning had turned to spectacular! I continued through the woods and flushed two others. I can't help thinking of huge bumblebees as they motored away. There were also 15 HOODED MERGANSERS in the cove. Mostly male birds and breathtaking. I wanted to grab the people walking by and say LOOK!! See what's right there under your noses!
