In case you didn't know, Woody Woodpecker was inspired when Walter Lantz, his creator, had a Pileated drumming on his log cabin, much the same way your Downy is doing. In fact the earlier versions of Woody looked more like a Pileated than later versions, which were 'cuter'. Just helping you find a little humor in this. Good luck with your roof.
