A large flock (I counted 113) of Tundra Swans also flying north, same time. 7 Horned Grebes and a single scaup species also seen from the deck. An adult Bald Eagle hunting right in front of the visitor center, a single Great Blue Heron flying low across the water. Seen from the boat ramp area: many (displaying) Hooded Mergansers, 3 Wood Ducks, lots of coots and geese, many Ring-necked Ducks. In the power line cut on the way down to the ramp, an adult Cooper's Hawk perched in a snag, then flying into the woods as I backed up for a better look. Not much seen from the bridge on either side of the lake, nor in the "fishermans cove" along the road there. Ten-mile Creek was where the majority of the waterfowl were hiding. Anoth=er 100 or so Tundra Swans, huge numbers of Ring-necked Ducks, Buffleheads, a= few American Wigeon, a lone male Green-winged Teal, a few more Wood Ducks, mo=re Hooded Mergansers (perhaps 2 dozen or more), a smaller number of Common Mergansers (both male and female), a small raft of Canvasbacks (perhaps 12-15), smaller numbers of Redheads, a small number of Ruddy Ducks, and another (immature) Bald Eagle. A trip down the trail from parking lot #8 yielded 2 adult red-headed Woodpeckers. Other regularly occuring birds were Pileted Woodpecker, Red-headed Woodpecker, N. Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Belted Kingfisher, lots of robi=ns, bluebirds, Carolina Wrens, Golden-crowned Kinglets, White-throated and So=ng Sparrows, juncos, chicks and titmice, goldfinches, etc. Good birding, Rick Sussman Ashton,MD warblerick@aol.com 301-774-1185 ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
