The circuit around Wilde Lake is 1.49 miles, according to the Columbia Association (which maintains the parkland here). However, there's not much good birding on the south side -- in Columbia everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others, and the founders did not want a path behind their homes. So for about half the way along the south side you're walking on suburban streets and can't even see the lake, and for much of the rest of that side townhouses and apartments line the path about 15 feet away. The best route for birding is along the north shore, and then on the path along the stream that feeds the lake: after crossing the bridge over the feeder stream, turn right to go up a steep hill with a tot lot at the top. The path goes through the woods until you get to the bottom of the hill; after that the woods continue on your right (across the stream) and on the left there are houses about 150 feet back from the path, with the backs facing the path. There are several houses that each have a number of feeders. Once we turn around and get back to the lake, we walk back along the north side again.
