Btw, the common Merganser was a female. She was by the dam very close up too...all by herself. Further up the lake were the 2 male and one female hooded mergansers...a real treat for me to see both species. I didn't see her there yesterday (Friday)....& btw, there was no doubt at all it was a female common merganser. I had my books with me....and made sure. :) I also forgot to mention there was a 'family' of 10 ruddy ducks. The 'lead' male was in his glory showing off his rusty orange back. On Friday, the great Blue Heron made it's spring 'debut'. I hadn't seen him in a long time. He was perched on his favorite cement 'island'. :) Friday was not as an enchanting, delightful morning as Thursday was. :( But I take what I can get. :) Happy Birding to all, Carol Garza cgarza@starpower.net Columbia, MD by Wilde Lake, Howard County :) I think I covered it all this time! ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
