I wanted to get some sparrow numbers before the migrants arrived. 100+ SONG SPARROWS, 40 WHITE-THROATS, 1 SWAMP, 2 FIELD and 10 AMERICAN TREES (teedleing nicely). We also counted 300 RING-BILLED GULLS feeding over the fields. 4 COMMON SNIPE and a single WOOD DUCK were firsts for spring. A singing EASTERN MEADOWLARK and two flyover PIPITS were notable. The only other waterfowl were 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 11 BLACK DUCKS and 40 MALLARDS. Hopping over the Centennial we found it almost empty of waterfowl. 3 BUFFLEHEAD and a few RING-NECKED DUCKS. We did find another Howard birder and Kate Tufts joined us in our next stop. We arrived over at Wilde Lake and again found little waterfowl. As luck would have it we encountered Helen Zeichner so our party was now a foursome. We headed to some marshy spots and found some RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and 3 PINTAILS. By that time it had started to sleet so we called it a morning.
