During the winter we like to get to Blackwater at least once to see the sunset and watch the geese come in for the night. We left early so that we could go to Ocean City and the Vaughn areas. At Ocean City we were lucky enough to get good looks a 3 Razorbills (life birds for both of us). When we first arrived, we got only fleeting glimpses as they came to to surface and promptly dove. It's a good thing they have to breathe occasionally. After a while a couple of them decided to just sit on the surface and preen. There were still more Red-throated Loons than I've ever seen in one location. Mom got bored with the up & down Razorbills and found 7 Harlequin Ducks on the south jetty. Thanks to some great directions from fellow MDOspreyers, we found the Vaughn areas. The sparrows were plentiful and fairly cooperative. It was a nice chance to study some plumages I don't get to see often. The first winter White-crowned Sparrow really caught me off guard. For those of you who haven't been to the Vaughn areas, treat yourself to a trip. The sparrows are out of this world! We must have dawdled too long at OC & Vaughn. We watched the sun set as we drove to Cambridge. Not that there was a sunset to see because it was so overcast. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
