This bird, a female, looked beat! I wonder how far she had flown last night. I spotted the bird as she came in a straight line upstream above Leeds Creek, and without a moments hesitation, flew directly to our platform, made a smooth right turn to adjust for wind conditions, and lit on the nest as if she owned it. But this was the female. I thought the males were supposed to arrive first. Perhaps she thought so too, for she seemed to be looking about, as if wondering where that no-good loafing mate of hers was. After a few minutes of resting, she departed. Sure hope she returns. Additional signs of spring out here - Woodcock displaying behind my garden area for the past week (intermittently); - Bluebirds singing competitively from tops of the Walnut trees, - several Red-breasted Mergansers on Leeds Creek the past few days, - most of the migratory Canada Geese have pulled out (about 300 still on Leeds yesterday), - and a little flock of five Brown Creepers was seen moving through a nearby woodland a few days ago.
