Yesterday, 11 Mar, 2001 at 7:35 am i was sitting on my deck overlooking Jug
Bay and saw a large accipiter chase a Mourning Dove directly over my head.
It all happened too fast to ID the accipiter, but about 5 minutes later, i
saw what appeared to be the bird flying back over Jug Bay. The light gray
back confused me (daring not to think "goshawk"), but eventually it landed on
the other side and i put my scope on it and cranked it up to 60x at which
power i could see a spectacular adult-plumaged GOSHAWK. This is only my
second in the wild, and am i ever glad it was an adult!

Today (12 Mar, 2001) behind my house on Jug Bay, i saw my first pair of
Blue-winged Teals of the year. And at Jug Bay Wetlands sanctuary, i saw my
earliest ever (by 9 days) Rough-winged Swallow, in with lots of Tree
Swallows. Also today i saw 2 flocks of northbound Whistling Swans -- one
with 110 and the other with about 70.
