I did find a lone female scaup at the wildlife end. I spent about 20 minutes building the bird up to a comfortable positive ID. The head shape was very tough to reconcile since it varied with the birds activity. Bill shape was helpful but overall size was what gave me the most trouble. The bird seemed small (It did not appear much larger than a nearby pied-billed grebe. ) I have a woeful lack of experience with Greater scaup. Thanks Jane for the heads up!! By 9:00 the bird was gone. The large flock of RING-NECKED DUCKS had left also. There were 2 pairs of BUFFLEHEAD, 1 HOODED MERGANSER and 1 HORNED GREBE. Be on the laert and check all female scaup carefully and maybe we can relocate the bird.
