This morning while driving in Nanjemoy, I interrupted a pair of copulating crows in the middle of the road. A Brown Thrasher was observed calling from high in a cedar. As the thrasher landed and shook the branch it caused a poof cloud of pollen that resembled smoke to be released fro the tree. The Osprey are also busy collecting nesting material, doing their undulating display flight and calling. Flocks of cormorants are moving into the Creek and unfortunately the Mute Swans appear to be nest building. As long as we know where the nest is, we will be able to use our DNR permit to prevent a successful nesting. Enjoy the spring like weather and birding in the days to come.
