Ben, Another book you might want to use for finding birds in Hawaii is ENJOYIN= G BIRDS IN HAWAII, A BIRDFINDING GUIDE TO THE FIFTIETH STATE by H. Douglas Pratt. This book is a nice adjunct to one of the field guides, either HAWAII'S BIRDS (as suggested by Dean Newman) or THE BIRDS OF HAWAII AND THE TROPICAL PACIFIC, by H. Douglas Pratt, Phillip L. Bruner, and Delwyn G. Berrett. Even though the vast majority of Oahu's birds are introduced, they are colorful and fun to learn. One of the most beautiful birds of Honolulu, the White or Fairy Tern, is indigenous and can easily be found in the vicinity of the Waikiki Aquarium. The Lyon Arboretum is a terrific place for seeing birds and plants and the Tantalus/Roundtop Scenic Loop drive might give you a glimpse of the Common Amakihi and the Apapane, as well as introduced bulbuls and the White-rumped Shama, a glorious singer.
