March is usually a good time to find = waterfowl in Washington Co. along the C&O canal, Big Pool area and I = spotted the following there yesterday: Pied-billed Grebe-1 =20 Tundra Swans- about 70 Canada Geese- about 60 Wood Ducks - about 25 Am. Black Ducks - 4 Mallards - 8 Gadwall - 4 American Wigeon - 15 Ring-necked Ducks - 5 Buffleheads - 4 Hooded Mergs - 2 Red-breasted Merg - 1 Ruddy Ducks - 3 Am. Coots - 9 Also, one Killdeer in the mud at the end of Big Pool and plenty of = Spring Peepers and a few Wood Frogs calling. In addition, in that area along the canal plenty of winter residents to = keep one attentive & content.
