Aventine we identified the following: 4 Horned Grebe 10 Great Blue Heron 10 Turkey Vultures 6 Wood Duck 8 Gadwall 11 American Wigeon 6 Green-winged Teal Greater/Lesser (90%/10%)Scaup Mixed flock of 5,000+ flushed by a Bald Eagle 20 Bufflehead 30 Common Mergansers 3 Bald Eagles 1 Red-tailed Hawk 2 Northern Flicker 3 Downy Woodpeckers 1 Pileated Woodpecker 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker 2 White-breasted Nuthatch 4 Tufted Titmouse 2 Carolina Chickadee 2 Carolina Wren 1 Eastern Phoebe 2 Golden-crowned Kinglet 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 4 Yellow-rumped Warbler 6 Northern Cardinal 12 Dark-eyed Junco Other birds of note over the Pre-Saint Patrick's weekend and at the house in Waldorf were a pair of duetting Great Horn Owls at the house on March 10. On March 11 600 Common Grackle flyover, 14 American Goldfinch, Woodcock displaying, 30 Tundra Swans migrating over the house, 2 Black Vulture, and two Fox Sparrows. A single Barred Owl was calling on March 14 at the house. The Hermit Thrush continues to feed on peanut and sunflowers in the platform feeder. This bird has been around all winter.
