This is my earliest date by 10 days. Lots of Tree Swallows lately, but can't find any other spp. among them. On March 16, while talking on the phone, i looked out our back window and saw "our" Barred Owl sitting on a limb about 40 feet away. She/he was holding something in her/his mouth. Binoculars quickly revealed that it was a frog! She/he could see us thru the window (i believe), and was very cautious to get any closer to the nest. Finally, she/he flew to the nest, but turned at the last minute. We were suspicious that they had young, because they have been singing less lately, but we see them flying around more. Lately we have been serenaded in the evening by the outrageously gorgeous song of a Fox Sparrow. He sings just before dark. danny bystrak bristol, AA Co.
