Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 18:16:52 EST Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Gail Mackiernan Subject: Paint Branch Park today Hi all -- We took the dogs for a walk on this lovely eary spring day, covering the paved trail in Paint Branch Park, Montgomery Co. from Randolph Rd. south to Martin Luther King Swim Ctr. This is primarily wooded and thus is usually quiet at this time of year. However, migrants are moving -- we saw/heard three Eastern Phoebes (our first for the year) and there were good numbers of Grackles, but no Rusty Blackbirds, alas. Another treat were three, count 'em, three Mourning Cloak butterflies defending territories along the path, two were very fresh-looking and one worn.
