From 10:45 to 11:10 AM, I observed the Northern Shrike at Pax River NAS, St. Mary's County. The bird was perched high in a tree along the east edge of the cornfield across from the Natural Resources building. The tree was quite close to Cedar Point Road. By the time I got close enough to determine this was the shrike and not some wishful hallucination, the shrike decided to fly east and I eventually relocated it in another tree overlooking the last cornfield before the bay. Again it was very close to the road. I was able to get good views of the bird, right down to the hook on the bill. I didn't bring my cameras because I felt they had jinxed me on my other two tries. State bird for me. ///////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com || ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
