Most of the sea ducks have departed and the Bonaparte Gull flock has dwindled from about 80 birds to less than 20. Finally spied a Northern Gannet and a Fox Sparrow on 3/13. The Bald Eagle nesting in Quaker Swamp (visible from Route 4 if you know where to look) is on land that is part of the new Flag Ponds acquisition. The spring ephemeral wildflowers are in bud and the first Dentaria (cut-leaf toothwort) was found blooming on 3/13. SMAS will have a field trip, led by Jack Leighty and Susan Noble on 3/31 at 9 AM when the ephemerals should be out in force. Anglewing butterflies (both commas and question marks) have appeared on the warmer days (2/21 and 3/13). ///////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com || ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
