But: probable Gray-cheeked Thrush. While heading up the main hill Red Trail, heard a very distant descending trill. The call only sounded twice and I was unable to analyze its components. An hour later, I had an all too brief sighting of a thrush higher up the hill. Much too heavily spotted for a Veery and not spotted enough for a Wood Thrush.. Indistinct eye-ring. Definitely not a Swainson's. No tail movement that would have suggested a Hermit. Some light-coloration aspect to base of bill. Very gray, overcast day and poor light did not permit much evaluation of body, face or tail color before the arrival of Whistling Joe & Suzy Loudmouth who scared the bird away as they whistled and shouted in their efforts to relocate their off-leash Fido. A pox on them. Other species: Canada Goose Great Blue Heron Turkey Vulture Sharp-shinned Hawk Great Horned Owl!!
