He saw an area new to him, and I got to revisit lots of interesting places. There were no gulls at all at the Sea Breeze restaurant on Sandgates Rd. Although there were lots of Long-tailed Ducks on the water. Couldn't find the Northern Shrike at the Naval Air Station, but there were lots of sparrows and blue birds. Point Lookout was the most fun. A Flicker on a piling in the water. A fair number of Gannets far out. Ducks were mostly Bufflehead, Golden-eye, Long-tailed (tried but failed to make some into scoters). A few Common Loons, Red-Breasted Mergansers, and Horned Grebes. A fair number of Savanah Sparrows were on the ground around the picnic tables at the point. We finally located a Brown-headed Nuthatch - heard them all over the place, but had a hard time finding them. There were also a fair number of singing Pine Warblers, in pine trees no less! Paid a visit to the family farm in Loveville. Unfortunately, the weather had turned nasty - cold, windy, and rainy - and the birds really hunkered down. The only birds we saw were at the feeders at the house - usual fare - Juncos, House Finches. It was a great day!
