Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2001 12:58:55 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Michael Bowen Subject: DC sightings Comments: To: voice@capaccess.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed After a couple weeks away in Texas, it's a mixed pleasure to be back here in the DC area, especially since spring has advanced only so far . . . . some sightings in DC made on Wednesday, March 28: at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and nearby Kenilworth Park: 1 AMERICAN KESTREL approx. 50 RUSTY BLACKBIRD 1 HOODED MERGANSER 1 HERMIT THRUSH 1 FOX SPARROW (singing) 1 SWAMP SPARROW many SONG SPARROWS In Anacostia Park and the adjacent Anacostia Wetlands: 2 OSPREY 2 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK 17 (minimum) COMMON SNIPE and at Roosevelt Island: 14 WOOD DUCK 1 EASTERN PHOEBE many SPARROWS (95% SONG, with few SWAMP and WHITE-THROATED) Note: No Laughing Gulls were to be seen anywhere, nor any swallows.
