In a 2-hour walk between Fletcher's Boathouse and just upstream of Chain Bridge (all in DC) this morning, I had 5 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW the first swallows of the year for DC for me. Other birds new (for me) for DC in 2001 were 5 BLACK VULTURE 3 TURKEY VULTURE Other birds of interest were 50-100 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT 7 COMMON MERGANSER 11 WOOD DUCK 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRD 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK but no sight or sound of any early warblers. Only a matter of days now, though . . . . . Mike Bowen Bethesda MD D.H.
